Artist Bio

Jairo Alor Salomé, known professionally as El Jornalero, was born in Veracruz, Mexico, where he began playing the guitar at the age of eight. As the grandson of renowned spoken word artist Pancho Alor, he was immersed from an early age in Mexico's rich oral and musical traditions, naturally developing a passion for composing décimas (ten-line stanzas) and, later, original songs inspired by Mexican folk music. Following the passing of his maternal grandfather, Pedro Salomé, who had raised him, Jairo experienced a period of profound personal hardship that would become the driving force behind his songwriting. His compositions explore themes of rural life, love, resilience, and the ongoing struggle against personal vices, drawing from deeply personal experiences while resonating with universal emotions.

Musically, El Jornalero blends traditional and contemporary influences, weaving together genres such as son jarocho, rumba, bolero, and Cuban son to create a distinctive and authentic sound rooted in Latin American musical heritage.

In 2024, he became a member of the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM), recognizing his growing contribution as a songwriter and composer. His music has since reached audiences across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, reflecting his commitment to sharing the cultural traditions of Mexico on an international stage.

El Jornalero is currently recording his debut album, El Jornal, a collaborative project featuring accomplished musicians from across Mexico as well as celebrated Cuban artists, including Roldán Carballoso Gómez (Buena Vista Social Club), Pedro Pablo (Buena Vista Social Club), and Adel González (Los Van Van). The album showcases his signature fusion of traditional Latin American styles with contemporary storytelling, marking an important milestone in his artistic career.
